STARTING FROM SCRATCH:

To say that we have started “from scratch” is about as close to the truth as it can get. We ended 2024 with a very small ceramics inventory, and an even smaller 2D/watercolor inventory. Over the winter months, and to kick off 2025, we sent many of the newer items to Trox Gallery in Emporia, KS to be displayed for consignment there. Since then, we’ve also been able to produce a kiln load just for them. As of Jun 18, 2025, most of those two batches we sent have been sold! This is great news, but it means we have very limited inventory in-house, and that Alex is spending a lot of time throwing, trimming, and firing new pieces.

NEW THIS YEAR:

We have a new goal! This year in particular, we are focusing more on submitting to ceramics contests, juried shows and exhibitions, and internationally recognized events. We have submitted some brand-new works to the Strictly Functional Pottery National in Lancaster, PA. We won’t hear back about this show until late July. Nerve-wracking!

Other contests we’ve submitted to include the 2025 KC Clay Guild Teabowl National and the Function-Focused contest with Ceramics Monthly — keep an eye out for those results as they come in!

UN-FUN NEWS…

While we’ve been putting in applications to shows and contests, we’ve also begun to receive the decisions of the juries for some of those events. Unfortunately, we were not selected for Art Westport 2025. Last year’s Art Westport went well and was a very enjoyable experience for PAC Studios. We’ve also been put on a wait list for the Lawrence Art in the Park show for 2025. In 2024, we were not selected for the Lawrence show, and we were hoping for a different result this year. However, we’ve got several other shows and events that we’ve applied to, and we’ll post those results when we receive them.

Don’t worry, though—this isn’t going to prevent Alex from making art, and it certainly isn’t going to prevent PAC Studios from moving forward or applying again next year.

A NOTE OF INTEREST:

As a studio, we have realized that we have outgrown our physical space. Our house and garage can no longer support our growing operation, and so we are on the lookout for the perfect studio space. This is more difficult than one might imagine, of course, and that primarily has to do with property cost in our area. Buying and renting are both on the table, but we’re determined to find the option and space that will work best for us. Know someone with some property? Want to invest in our artwork and studio?
